I went to the Eurobike exhibition in Friedrichshafen on Saturday.
The main theme was electro bikes i.e. normal bicycles with little battery powered motors. Probably a good idea for pensioners who need to get up hills.
The other thing that seems to be creeping in is belt drive instead of chains. Given that the belts are nowadays made out of material which doesn't stretch (the fault in the past with this system) this could be the way ahead. The toothed belt requires no oil but has to be used with a hub gearing system. Perhaps it could even be used for fixies!
It was also interesting to notice that quite a few overweight people were trying out recumbent trikes. Maybe the trikes give them confidence.
I also saw a super high precision wheel truing stand for just short of 1,000 Euros!!!
Did anybody else go?
