Seeing as our favourite Scot has downed his favourite Scotch and forgotten to start a world cup thread, I thought I'd post one.

The kick off between Russia and Saudi Arabia is about to start: the host nation will be under massive pressure to perform well.

The stadium looks magnificent (as does the nicely cut grass).

I fancy Belgium to take the cup in a month's time. Any others?

And if you really hate 'Wendy Ball' - be nice and please stay away.

I have no idea how good, bad or ugly Saudi Arabia are, but I predict a 3-0 win for Russia.

I think its possible for a win for Saudi Arabia, Russia are and have been poor for a while.

They have, but S Korea showed how far a side can go on home support. Russia to win (easy prediction as they're 1 up) and will qualify for knock out stage

Apparently this match Russia v Saudi holds the two tournament records.
It is the lowest ranked of all the games in terms of FIFA rankings as well as the lowest ranked on the internation democracy index.
