When people say this do they not realise I am already aware that we inhabit an expanding universe where effect follows cause and they are already speaking in the future tense?

Can I nominate this as redundant phrase of the century?

it's a "bullshit bingo" phrase, can we keep it? ;)

Actually I think it's quite useful. Often when you report about something you are talking about past practices, results and policies and going forward there will be different practices, results and policies mainly because the past practices, results and policies were crap. ;)

Plus I wouldn't be able to get a full house in fiddle bingo any more.

'comprising of' a favourite with estate agents (hawk, spit!) round my way

The use of 'Comprising of' is not just relegated to estate agents...that abomination is all over the place.;) Just now I was reading a paper where the author had used the word 'comprising' correctly, and I nearly did a small celebratory dance. I expect people to mis-use it and so when it's done properly it's a lovely surprise.

Use of the word Specialised. Actually it's Specialized; that's the way it's spelt in the English Dictionary. That's the way it's spelt on my bike. ;)

My pet hate is the overuse, usually by sales people, of the reflexive pronoun. Why do they think I would be impressed by them saying "yourself" when they mean "you". Fools.

Do you ask you that often?

Also, it's the sort of thing I'll be shoehorning into job applications. I've have on on the go now, says I need experience of leading and facilitating groups. Facilitating? A friend said, oh, is it like "Providing the means to learn", so I have to remember that phrase to stick in as well...

I cannot ever think of a case when 'utilise' is a better choice to 'use'

Utilisation (or should that be utilization) is a key statistic used in the legal industry to measure the extent to which people charge their time to client files as a percentage. It is an American thing, but if I used "Usage" people wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about. I agree it is industry specific but it's used in other accounting areas, eg costing, ratios and statistics. It's a terminology that has been inherited from the US but is widely used in finance to mean different things.

I think these words and phrases are thought up by the Management courses to see how long it takes for it to go around the world and then have a good laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
