In my day, the expression was "I thank you" as in the Sam and Dave song. Note the cunning way I informed three threads, the Chain, Growing Old, and Grammar in one thread. (I hope I am using informed correctly, hang on, haven't I just referenced another thread? Maybe I should start one up - does every thread inform on every other thread like the Stasi in the last days of East Germany.

Erm, you didn't inform them, you alluded to them.

As long as it starts with a "T" and not an "F" then I am very happy fankyooo.

Terribly sorry to resurrect this thread, but I've just found it by happenstance and it is one of my favourite things to get agitated about!

"Thank you" is a verb and a pronoun, used when you are giving thanks to someone for something. Example: Thank you for giving me a new bike.
Writing this as one word is comparable to saying something like:
"Ican ride a bike", or "Iplayfootball"

"Thankyou", or more correctly "thank-you", is a NOUN. This means it is really "a thank-you". Example: [1] I gave her a big thank-you for giving me a new bike. [2] I sent him a thank-you letter.

Thank you, and good day
