Yep, lived on them for a few days when out the the (real) cowboys in Arizona a few years back. I seem to remember tasteless, looked like a scone with the consistency of wet bread
I suppose it does depend on how it has been cooked. It needs to be thick, almost gelatinised to taste good....and the yellow version, not the white one!
My wife tried them (for breakfast?) when we were in New Orleans - she says they tasted ok but as she smokes she can't taste anything anyway.
I didn't like the look of them and so, not wanting to be a true Brit abroad by ordering sausage, egg and chips, I asked for the Cajun breakfast. the waitress turned up five minutes later with a big plate of sausage, egg and chips. Don't assume, check.
