Nice to see so many locals

After 13 years in Leicester, the incompetent, useless and I believe lying city council has finally driven the organisation away.

Cyclemagic to close - 10 July 2012

It is with sadness that we announce Cyclemagic is to close its Friday Street doors for the final time on Tuesday July 31st. After thirteen years of working together and a total of 45 years spent promoting cycling in Leicester, the growing level of local bureaucracy has overwhelmed our enjoyment of running the organisation.

We have had many memorable moments, made many friends and achieved a great deal that we are proud of, including:

 Organising four Spokesfest Cycling Festivals
 Organising Leicester’s first cycling film festival
 Setting up Leicester’s first bike recycling project
 Setting up Leicestershire’s only disability cycling project
 Hosting a Guinness World Record with 131 Penny Farthing bicycles
 Opening the 2007 Tour de France in London
 Working on a world-wide advert for Stella Artois
 Teaching Olympic Champion Chris Hoy to ride a Penny Farthing
 Making a documentary film with the BBC
 Teaching thousands of local children to cycle safely
 Helping countless people with special needs enjoy the benefits of cycling

Almost all of our large range of machines, spares and accessories are to be sold and we will be announcing a series of bike sales and cycle jumbles over the coming weeks.

We will retain the Cyclemagic brand name and, after an extended and long overdue break, plan to relocate elements of the organisation to another town. Our final event in Leicester will be our Cycling With Style bike ride on September 16th and we would like to invite everyone to come along to help us celebrate Cyclemagic and the changes it has brought to cycling in Leicester

We would both like to thank everyone that has supported our work over the years and hope to see many of you whilst out riding our bikes in the future.

Because Leicester City Council were taking up to 8 months to pay us for delivering schools cycle training.

Because on four occassions Leicester City Council sent bailiffs around to collect business rates that, as a charity, we don't pay.

Because Leicester City Council did not consult anyone on a major funding bid for cycling, a bid from which we were excluded.

Because despite giving senior council officials details and evidence of one of their staff acting with gross misconduct they did nothing and that person is still employed.

Because Leicester City Council does not have a cycling policy other than "Lets pay to have Sky Ride"

I could go on..........................

However, a number of councils around the country, with whom we have worked regularly, are asking usto move to their cities.

That's not good hilldodger and can't blame you fo moving away if other city councils need/want your expertise.

Nothing surprises me about the dogawful eejits that make up that authority. They are still quite happy to have an ex leader who has been exposed for fiddling expenses still there. A mayor who is next to useless . The list of their incompetence's just goes on and on.
