Over the last few weeks, the bike had developed an annoying creak (its now done 1100 miles since new). Difficult to tell where it was coming from - somewhere at the front.
Checked all the bolts and nuts were tight - albeit without a torque wrench.
I had convinced myself that it was related to the front mudguard - not sure why I thought that - maybe just because it had been added, but probably because if I reached forward and held it steady, the creak seemed to go away. But that could have been because I had changed posture, putting less weight on the bars, or maybe even because I was riding more gingerly!
Took mudguard off. No difference. Back to the drawing board.
So today, while waiting for the gas board to (fail to) appear, I removed the bars and stem, and greased all the joints, bolts and faces.
And the creak has gone!
