Having eschewed the notion of ever acquiring another bike, I called into Woodrup Cycles to pick up a granny ring for my Flying Gate and Tony Woodrup insisted on showing me some of the bikes that they took to the Lea Valley.

I saw an object of great beauty and so desirable that I dare not look at full pictures of it lest I succumb to its allure. So here's an excerpt:

The paintwork is stunning, the lugwork is perfect, the flowing lines.....

If I underwent some serious weight loss this would be a very attractive proposition.

Changing the subject for my own sanity - Tony Woodrup brought a present for me back from the show. A book of Rohloff stories produced by the Rohloff factory. There's some great stories and images. They are proud of their ability to resurrect most dead or failing hubs but had to concede defeat with a hub that was melted in a shed fire. The most bizarre failure recovery was a hub that had been shot by the Dutch police.

To add to my pleasure I was asked to take my bike in for a free service as it's one of their first production models and they want to see how it's bearing up after two and a bit years.

Off to read more bike porn and pack for next weeks Avenue Verte ride - well the French bit of Avenue Verte.

Life is good.

It's no good @vernon - you'll have to have it. But you'll never be able to ride it as it might get a tiny bit of road muck on it

I told them that I was prepared to own it as a work of art. It really is gorgeous. Kevin Sayle, their frame builder is a master craftsman.

It's perched next to a Chimera in the shop. It's destiny is unlikely to be perched next to my Chimera

Seriously, @vernon, that's just NSFW! As soon as I saw the photo, I was in danger of drooling copiously into my keyboard, which might have stopped it working, and forced me to go home early, cycling in the lovely Autumn afternoon sunshine, multi-coloured leaves falling everywhere... no, wait a sec, keep the photos coming, mate!

That is soooooo nice, I do love nicely made details on products. Things like the way the roof cant rails meet the rear wings on Aston Martin DB5's, or where the the screen pillars meet the scuttle on the Dino 246GT. Delicious!
I chose to buy my Boardman Road Race over other brands because of the way the welds are finished on the aluminium frame so as to be all but invisible.
