if you had to leave the UK now permanently, where would and could you go?

Our plan was to move to Zell am See or thereabouts, but Brexit stuffed all that.

I would go to Strobl in Austria. It is a small village by a large lake, about one hour by bus from Salzburg.

Really? My IT man emigrated there last year and now he remotely mends my computer and deletes my incriminating browser history from Salzburg instead of Olney. Certain events we won't mention didn't seem to stop him.
Is he in his 50s and about to retire?

Norway for me. Going back again this winter. Love the place.

If I could continue to work from home, I'd go to somewhere like the Canaries or maybe Cyprus. Not too crowded, more laid back lifestyle, good weather most of the year round, and I could get back to Devon if needed within 12 hours and not much money. My ex in-laws retired to Benalmadina but they don't stay out there in the summer because it's too hot

Well I’m currently spending my Monday in waterproofs slowly drowning from the inside. Anywhere with less rain.

I’d have to say Mallorca, though I’ve been soaked through to the skin there more than once….

A couple of miles inland around the Pollenca area would do. A nice little finca with citrus trees and vines.

It looks a great country but I wouldn't cope with the winter darkness!

I spoke to someone whose wife had gone to university in Northern Norway and she got so depressed in her first winter that she contemplated suicide.

Also, very expensive to live there isn't it?

I was well inside the arctic circle close to midwinter last year. The darkness was much less than I expected. There is still some light despite the sun being below the horizon and that gets reflected by the snow boosting its effect.

Costs are a bit higher than in the UK but so is renumeration for the job you do.
