someone should ask for the specs and see what crazy stuff they come up with.

for these sorts of sellers the only solution is for people to stop buying from these sources. Harder to tackle the more organised crews that strip the stolen bikes and mix and match components to sell as new bikes or individually.

It's about time Gumtree and E-bay(and others) started vetting their sellers more carefully. Where's their morals/integrity?

There uis a 'report this ad' button on the site. If anyone does feel the need to report it as stolen.. then there you go. A few clicks and perhaps Gumtree will pull the ad.

It's no surprise really. I've been in touch with Gumtree recently about the vast number of stolen bikes on there and they just gave me some crap reply about taking the issue seriously.. and doing all they can to reduce it! Yeah right.

Just looking through the local gumtree. There's little information in some of these ads and a few of the prices are abit odd. You'd think if someone was selling a half decent bike they'd add some specs.

How about this one? It's abit odd, as it's urgent, he says he's only used it a few times, yet he's attached a rack and panniers to it and doesn't even say what model it is.

Is there any scope for setting up something on here where we can list potentially dodgy ads and advertisers ourselves off Ebay and Gumtree. That way buyers see who is best avoided and those who have a had a bike stolen may just find out where their own bike has got to.
