i was perusing the BBC website and saw a page on the best designed products of the year, I saw these~

Is this the future, would they provide a cushioned ride, would you have them on your bike?

and there was me thinking you can't make a wheel ugly!
hell no! would it suit a lovely touring bike such a dawes galaxy, no! would it suit a super fast carbon roadie such as a spec tarmac or scott foil, no! would it suit a brompton folder, no!
and thus i'm not sure they suit any bike

If they offer a real benefit I don't care what they look like. I'm not convinced by them though. Drum brakes? Have they dramatically improved recently?

I'd have to ride them before I could deride them. They might be fine but I'm not convinced they solve a real problem. For the record, I don't think they look ugly, just different. They don't seem to go larger than 20'' though.

Dunno, but the one on the back of my Nexus hubbed bike doesn't seem to do much more than a gradual retardation. The disc on the front gives a big contrast in stopping power.
