Does anyone have any idea what this mystery box might be for? the dial shows the moisture and it seems to be made of cherry, which is good at withstanding moisture.

As is often the case, it was part of a bigger donation.

That's the trouble: I'd googled it to see what they normally cost, but we have to remember that people don't come to a second hand shop to buy a nice cigar box, so we have to keep prices down. Oddly, we also tend to get less for things like this than other shops do; in fact someone from another shop in the organisation which could have sold it for much more just came to visit, but it was sold by then. Such is life...
