Its not novel, it is quite common. But it is a good idea. I have also seen this method on Gumtree and Craiglists..

I'm really on the fence about this sort of thing... Let's say whoever stole your bike is looking to sell it online, they'll probably research a rough price by looking at other bikes for sale. If they come across this advert then they are going to avoid selling it on the same site because they can be reasonably sure the victim is watching the adverts, thus the victim just missed a decent chance of recovery.
That said there's also the advantage of getting information about the stolen bike out to people looking for similar bikes to buy and thus more eyes that way.
