The maximum nose weight for a tow bar will be specified in your car handbook.
One thing to watch out for with this sort of rack is if the bike's cross bar is too narrow to hook over the two arms of the carrier, although you can buy a telescopic frame adapter that fits between the bike's seat and handlebar posts. I didn't need to buy a telescopic frame adapter myself, but if you look at the photo where all the bikes are mounted on my car you will notice that the ladies cross bar on my wife's bike pulls the rear wheel in the air and this interferers with handle bars on the adjacent bike. This is why I've had to loosen the handle bar on the adjacent bike and rotate it by 90 degrees. I would imagine that you might also have similar problems with children's bikes.
