I was sad to hear that Arnold Palmer has passed away. He was a true giant in sport, a wonderful golf ambassador and a true gentleman.

I watched Arnold in a British Open practice round at Royal Birkdale. A young boy of about 8 was stood with his dad next to me. We were a long way from anyone else. As Arnold passed by the young boy held out his programme and said "Excuse me Mr Palmer, could I have your autograph? Arnold walked on for a few strides. I thought he hadnt heard the boy. But ghen he stopped and turned round. " Come here young man, said Arnold and fhe young boy went onto the course. Arnold signed the programme and thanked the boy for coming to see him play and asked who his was with. He then went and stood with the boy and his dad while photos were taken.

The players behind just waited until Arnold was finished. After all who is going to play through Arnold?

It was a great moment go witness.

He will be missed.

Here for rides.
Arnold Palmer was Uncle Jossie's idol. As I idolised my Uncle Jossie, who was a scratch golfer, minor counties cricketer, and a demon on the snooker table, I, in my turn, idolised Arnold Palmer. Even after I retired from playing golf aged 19. 37 years ago.
