He wasn’t very well known in the UK – he and his German colleagues (Albert Mangelsdorff, Gerd Dudek, Gunter Hampel, Manfred Schoof etc) didn’t tour the UK very often.
I did catch him once – at the LSE Small Theatre, mid/late 1970s – with an outfit called Globe Unity Orchestra. If memory serves, they doubled up on everything .. two trombones, two drummers, two basses etc. They performed a riotous version of Monk’s “Ruby, My Dear” that I’ll never forget.
