Tax rebate came today so after a modern bike.

56 to 58 cm frame for 6 footer.

82cm inside leg if you wanna get really intimate!

Integrated shifters, triple front ring, able to take mudguards.

Other than that I am easy. Budget £350 to £500 but not a penny more and that's delivered or pick up if you live near me.

Going to see a Defy 4 on Tuesday but it isn't that cheap, and maybe a Bianchi C2C Via Nirone 7 on Thursday but its only a double but looks very nice.

Don't worry about compact chainsets, more gears isn't always desirable. If your or aiming to to be fit, a compact would be a sensible choice.

A compact will be fine. I bought my first road bike last year with a double, just meant i got fitter quicker

If i lived where Kins lives i'd want a triple too....there's some serious hills in that area

A compact has a 34t chainring, should get you up pretty much anything, especially with with a 27t cassette.

I live in the Beacons and full of hills and mountains so, aye, I want a triple if possible. I have looked at a brand new Defy 4 triple (£519 from Ashcycles) and Triban 5 and might go that route but would rather save some money and go for 2nd hand or get some gear with it.

Watching a few items on fleabay to, but you never know what forumites have hidden in their sheds!

A compact has a 34t chainring, should get you up pretty much anything, especially with with a 27t cassette.

I believe most can run up to a 30t as well, so even better , sram apex can run 34tx32t which you can twiddle up a cliff .
