Server Upgrade Work

Hello everyone,

I'm beginning phase two of the server upgrade work earlier than planned - erm, like this evening possibly!!!

Sorry for the short notice, but I need to take this step in order to install some new sofware for CC and there's no time like the present.

There may be some outages over the coming weeks, and a few bits and bobs may go a bit wonky (that's the technical term for it) but hopefully disruption will be kept to a minimum.

Cheers,
Shaun

Finally a message from someone in IT I can understand!

PS: Thanks for all your efforts over the years keeping the place as un-wonky as it is.

Well, it was a tough call, but in the end fiddling around with SQL won out. Sorry!

Maybe next week.

The server is going to be flipped over to use Apache2 web server shortly.

It shouldn't effect the forums, but if you notice anything not working as it should, please PM me.

If you can't PM for any reason, email webmaster@cyclechat.co.uk but be aware that I won't be able to read the emails until late evening.

Cheers,
Shaun ;)

Okay, first part complete - we're now on Apache2.

Everything seems to be running okay, so hopefully the rest can be completed over the next couple of days.

Cheers,
Shaun

The remaining upgrade work is now underway so there may be short-term outages during the day.

Once the upgrade is complete I'll let you know, so please don't report any errors or problems until after all the work is finished.

Thanks,
Shaun

<smartass>Only joined a few weeks ago, and already spend a daft amount of time here. It's a fine place, but I guess I didn't appreciate just HOW precious - whole site offline, but can still get in through https!</smartass>

The final part of the upgrade should be carried out around 2am-4am this morning.

So get your CC fix in now, just in case the gremlins strike.

Cheers,
Shaun

Unfortunately, the engineer didn't get chance to do the upgrade last night so will carry out the work sometime over this weekend.

If CC disappears for a short while, please entertain yourselves with the following 'tinterweb sites until it comes back:

http://www.kittentanz.com/ - Cattery web cam
http://kimbofo.typepad.com/londoncyclingdiary/ - London Cycling Diary
http://games.aarp.org/ - Online games and puzzles
http://www.ukdebate.co.uk/forums/index.php - For P&L regulars

Cheers,
Shaun
