Today I will be riding home with a couple of brampley apple trees (only small ones mind - about 5-6ft). They're only £3.99 each at Lidl.
About a year ago I did collect a new set of wheels from my LBS and carried them home bungied to the panniers/rack. Much to the amusement of the shop mechanic. Got a couple of comments from passing drivers along the lines of "You carrying a spare, just in case?"

I'd been riding, hence the hat, and the box and bog rolls are from a bulk order I chip in with some friends on. The panniers contain jars of pasta sauce, and bags of oats, and my chaps and whip...

Admittedly not that exact bird, but one of same species. I found it exhausted in the middle of a lane. Several cars had gone over it (but not with wheels...). So I picked it up and put it at side of road and it couldn't fly off. So I popped it into a pannier and rang my local animal welfare group. Took it to a specialist vet where it was looked after. Apparently there was a shortage of insect food that year and many a house martin was starving. This one found itself in a room full of cages of wild birds being fed up to a sufficient weight to be released back into their natural habitat. So it hit lucky.

Awwwww, you're all heart. They're such pretty birds too.
