Really sorry. It is such a pain, at all sorts of levels.
Our bikes spend their resting hours chained to anchor bolts. It's that sort of town.
Chains are certainly 15% of the bike weight.

Cheers Gwylan. It just occurred to me today.. I should have removed the battery . I'd have got some comfort from the fact that it's value to them would be reduced. It might even have stopped them nicking it.

Really sorry. Hope the insurance at least fills the gap.
I was shocked by all the incidentals that I lost with the bike.
Trouble is that as long as people buy bikes with dodgy provenance or vendors then it will happen.
