Tandem riders, A11 near Newmarket

I've heard from a friend of a collision between a car and a tandem on the A11 on Sunday. There's a brief report in the local press and I wondered if anyone here knew any more about it? Nothing on BBC news about it.

If the investigation is ongoing and no fatalities then you wont hear much at this stage. Patient confidentiality will constrain the hospital and red tape the police. Which is as it should be.

A11/A14 junction is on a fast stretch of road. All duel carriageway up there.
I hope that they both make swift recoveries.

AIUI the riders were returning from the Milldenhall rally.

Update from a colleague of a friend:
Male rider is now out of hospital and has broken collar bone, multiple breaks in one arm, both shoulders broken - now secured by plates. His wife is still in hospital with more serious injuries but not apparently life-threatening.
They were hit from behind.

Glad they are both recovering, but rather shocked they were on the A11 - vehicles travelling at motorway speeds (in excess of 70), with slip-roads and no hard-shoulder as such. I used to organise TTs on the A14 in the 80s, but stopped about 1990 as the traffic volumes were too dangerous. Wonder why they went that way as there are a lot nicer roads to head south on?
