Been toying with the idea for years I guess and although I never really stopped cycling and was even more convinced when I bought another mountain bike recently for all three of us to get out together........................................I'm gonna get back into TT at the tender age of 56 ;)

Bought a bike and collect it tomorrow, a pre owned Planet X Stealth Carbon. I will sell one of the mountain bikes or even swap it for another roadie, that still leaves us with a mountain bike each as I have three:laugh:, so the girls then have the choice of on or off road as well;)

What finally pushed me over the edge?;)...................British TT Champs 2010 are just down the road from me, so we'll see if I can get there even though I'll get hammered along the way:laugh:

Well, that's the first ride over with then:ohmy:, bit of a shock to the system as it's been a while since I climbed on a quick road bike let alone a specialist jobby :laugh:.
Did a 13mile undulataing windswept route to see how thing worked/fitted and was pleasantly surprised that I was back in 45mins:becool:. Get some miles in over the winter and then a fine calm day and then ATTACK!!!!!:laugh:

So as you are getting back into TT, what were your times when you were in full cry? Why did you give up?

Can't say I was ever in full cry:blush:, I used some TT's to gain speed for duathlon. My true sport was always running, average cyclist and a crap swimmer so I'd rely more on the run and compete against myself more than anything. I found running made cycling much easier for me to be honest, in training I aimed for "evens" and hung on for as long as possible in events:ohmy:.
That said I never did any specific bike training and would usually get the bike checked over beforehand and just climb aboard on the day:blush:.

As for times 24 summat was my best for ten miles and 27 summat when I was in my early 40's, which was good enough for me as I just enjoyed the buzz.

I had no choice in the giving up, work related shoulder injury stopped everything about 10 years ago, but I hate to give in so I've battled up until early last year when they found some other stuff wrong, so the running is history. My wife and daughter have got me back into the bike and intended purely MTB for fun...........until I saw that next year's British Champs are just down the county from us and I know the area.

I don't know how the next 12 months training will go, the wheels may come off (no pun), but I'll give it a shot;)
