Casino Royale II was excellent.

Way, way better than the cod Roger Moore stuff. Up with Connery in my book.

Without looking it up in dictionaries etc, to me it means something like 'a little bit of consolation'... or summat like that anyway!

I too thought Casino Royale was the best Bond for ages... but then I switched off Bond around 'Live and Let Die'!! For me, they just got silly... and I don't mean gadgets. Agree also that Daniel Craig is a very very good Bond. There's something very dark and sinister (and f*cked up!) about the new Bond, and CR has that edge too. Personally, I like it and look forward to the next one.

What kind of stupid name is "Quantum of Solace"? It doesn't mean anything.

I believe it is a line taken from one of the Bond books i.e. someone found or was given a "quantum of solace" about something. When you think of it in that context, it is actually quite a good turn of phrase.

I think Craig is way better than Connery.

Bond would be a hard, ex SAS type and that's exactly how Craig comes across. He looks like he would actually hurt you if he hit you, similar to Connery but with a more realistic, darker edge.

I hope the next film takes believability a step further. I think the Bond films were given a bloody nose by Bourne and I hope they've learned from it.

Yup. Indeed, I was one of those who prior to CR, thought "Blonde Bond? No way!" I was wrong. Daniel Craig brought a dark, gritty performance which was far better than the overemphasis on gadgets that happened with the Pierce Brosnan Bond

As far as Bond films go, there are the Connery films and there's everything else. Craig is the best of the rest and Roger Moore the worst (even worse than Lazenby in my book).

I thought Casino Royale was ok.

Damm ! I had misheard this as Gromit or Wallace.
I really thought that one of them was to be the next Bond !
It's the wrong Aston Martin Gromit, and it's gone wrong!

The difference in people's taste never ceases to amaze me. I thought it was the best Bond film yet and the first one in years that could be classed as a well made piece of cinema and it is the only one I've bought on DVD. I just hope the new one hasn't gone silly. In any event, for me this Bond makes the Roger Moore version unwatchable.

Yes, I thought it was very good, but From Russia With Love remains my favourite. My only criticisms of CR were the ridiculousness of the opening fight scene, and it was slightly too long.

I know that it's fashionable among Bond afficionadoes to hate the Roger Moore films, but I thought Live & Let Die was great.

I liked CR II - mainly 'cause it was 'real' !

Connery was and always has been up his own backside.

Whereas Moore was very 'sloany' (shady) type of charachter.

Does anybody else remember Daniel Craig in an episode of Sharpe where he played an excellent, malevolent baddie?

He was also very good in "Our Friends In the North" and he had a small but murderous part in "Elizabeth".
