It is incredible; areas I know so well and visit several times every year are in such a state now.

I stayed in Cockermouth YHA recently (which was great; it's a true "olde world" hostel and had bags of atmosphere) and to think that it is now out of use thanks to being submerged in the floods. With the state of the economy and the closure of many hostels, I am doubting that this particular hostel will ever be reopened now.
