Yup - just one more gear

like just having one more pint at the pub

or one more piece of chocolate

That bottom gear looks like about 40x24 which gives ±3m 58cm. Not low by modern standards but easily low enough to make it to Vienna comfortably — just avoid the walls and wind your way up the cols steadily. Most importantly, keep the load light. Nice bike, nice trip.

There's only one gear that really counts, and that's the bottom one. I'm guessing that in this case it's 34/28. A bit high for my taste, but then I'm rubbish at going up hills. It'll be fine for some cyclists.

Mind you, there aren't any mountain ranges between Calais (assuming a channel crossing there) and Vienna so it's entirely possible. There will be some hills, sure, but no mountain passes.

Epic ride, kudos to him.
