... as to lay low the mountains of the Earth?

It has been very windy round here recently and was again on today's ride, which took me to an elevation of nearly 400 metres. I was getting blown about all over the place. I started thinking back to a sketch on The Secret Policeman's Ball in 1979...

The wind was tiring me out, but Peter Cook did indeed seem to be right about its strength - it was definitely mighty, but not mighty enough to lay low the mountains of Calderdale. (We actually call them 'hills' round here!) The ground had not been torn asunder by this force of nature.

That's the last time that I have a picnic at the base of a wind turbine on a windy day!

We're it this one you felt?
Nope.

THIS early morning 1984 quake woke me up in my student bed.

The other quake was at night a decade or more later. I had fallen asleep on a sofa with my head resting against the wall. The wall suddenly slapped my head and woke me up! I didn't have a clue what had happened until I heard about the quake the next day.
