I'll let the pictures do the talking for this, it really is lovely. Painted in Rabobank colours for the original owner by Woodrup in Leeds and made from Reynolds 853 (including the aero forks).

There're a couple of light scuffs/scratches to the paint and some chipping to the drive side chain stay near the chainrings (as expected).

There is a slight dent in the chainstay protector but I'm 99% certain it's just superficial (i.e. just to the metal protector itself).

Size: 54cm centre-to-centre along the top and up the seat.

Tight clearances with 25c tyres.

Brake callipers are 7403, levers 7401.
Chain set is 7410 (52/39) and rear mech is 7401 with decent jockey wheels. Front mech is 7410 band on and shifting is by Simplex Retrofriction, modded to take allen bolts instead of the soft original screws (this makes fine adjustment a whole lot easier).

Cassette is 10 speed at the moment but I can swap out to 8 or 9 speed if that's your preference.

Handlebars and stem are Cinelli, headset is a lovely cartridge bearinged Shimano 600 and seatpost is Kalloy aero (27.2)

Wheels are Omega V on Dura Ace 7403 (? hyperglide anyway, not uniglide so will take regular cassettes) rear and Omega V to Campagnolo front.

For the complete build, with your choice of saddle (Black or White Rolls, White Royal or White Turbomatic 2) I would like £600.

Frame, forks and headset can be had for £280 (Woodrup have confirmed that it's theirs and that a new frame with a similar spec would cost well over £1000).

Any combinations available, offers welcome.

Postage for the whole thing (including insurance) will be around £25 and a bit less for just the frame and forks.

Alternatively I can deliver in the Leeds area and collection/inspection is also welcome.

This is the only bike I've ever seen that looks the same as my mystery frame, same pointy lugs, same seat tube angle, same lack of clearance for the rear tyre. The only differences are mine is 653 and the paint job is all blue and white where this has orange but to an identical pattern, I have a couple of questions - mine has no frame no's anywhere does yours -mine has 3 slanted cut outs on the bottom bracket and brazed on cable guides again does yours. There are no makers decals on the one I have but it had a campy head race and seat post when I bought it so it got built up all campy with Roval wheels. I'd love to find out who built it as none of the bike shops in Leicester have any firm ideas although they all agree its a beauty

Eesh, I don't know I'm afraid.

This is stamped with the serial and '853' on the BB shell but other than the fact that I know it's a Woodrup I wouldn't be able to ID it really. I don't think Woodrup were known for club cutout lugs, but this has one. It also has a Zeus front dropout, just to make it even more confusing!

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

I'm sick so haven't had this out on the road, but that's set up for me at 6ft with a 72cm ish pedal to saddle length.
120mm stem and you're sorted!

Thanks anyway mate. My bike often draws an admiring crowd and I always feel an idiot when someone asks "what is it mate" I normally mumble something like "handbuilt"

'Handbuilt' is always a good response but it's a pain not knowing. It's always good to have a back story for a frame, this made my year a couple of years ago.

I bought a cheap 'Columbus SLX' frame off eBay, then found the guy it was originally built for and got in touch.

"- That particular frame was made the winter of 1992/93. The reason I know is because I'd started winning road races and riding Peter Buckleys at
that point, and they used to get you to wear frame numbers. And Don and I were very similar - we didnt like zipp ties on bikes, so he put the braze
on, for the frame number! icon_smile.gif
- It's a mix of SL and SLX. I seem to remember it had cinelli lugs -you should be able to look and tell farily easily.
_ re Don, no not many people rode his frames because quite frankly he only made frames for people he respected as bike riders. When I was growing up he only made frames for Rod Ellingworth. He made him one per year. I know before I met Don he'd made a frame for the Dawes girl too (I can't remember her name but very talented) and a few other national riders etc.
- Don offered to make my first bike in 1991, yours is/was my 2nd. I had 2 more after that, and then 1 more which I still have (my last bike built by Don)."

Yeah it gets to me but not having a frame No or a brand makes it very difficult especially when you see summat that looks just like it labelled as "bike porn" by another steel fan .I'd upload some photo's but;
1 I don't have a digital camera (all my interest is 35 mm black&white)
2 I wouldn't know how to.
3 That bike is currently tucked away in my attic til spring ( she won't let me hang it on the wall for winter and I won't ride it cos its got full slicks on)
