Bairns come from Falkirk if they are football fans. Can’t remember what Aberdeen ones are.
was under the impression that Bairns are babies in Scotland ?

I spent 6 weeks in Falkirk , I don’t remember hearing that . Doesn’t mean your are incorrect though !

No, you are both pretty much correct.
Bairns are children in Scotland but it's also the nickname for the football team over there. Loons and quines are boys and girls in Eberdeen, but I think that's a throwback to doric but I'm not sure. ^_^

I love steam vehicles. I don't go to vintage shows that often these days but when I do, I could spend all day watching the traction engines if there are any. A few years ago I did go to a proper steam rally and had a play with trying to capture some of of it on black and white film for a traditional effect if I could. Here are scans of some of the negatives. It was actually a horrible day!

Actually the football team are or were the Falkirk Bairns in popular parlance.
Bairns are children generally.
Aberdeenshire dialect called Doric which is impenetrable to an outsider . Young men are loones and their female equivalent are quines.
I can understand quite a lot of it but sometimes baffled.
Aberdeen was known in cb times as furryboot city. Nothing to do with footwear but was a question asked of the many incoming oil workers. Furaboots are ye frae? ie where do you come from?
