MacB Garage

I started out with several wall hooks but found they were inflexible then I struck very lucky. Was admiring the setup in the repair area of my LBS and the owner said he had all the old stuff from a recent refit still in another storage area. So I had my choice of racking to my hearts content and filled my boots. I also have a twin garage to play with and no risk of it being required for cars.

The bike hanging area is across the back of the garage and is basically a tubular frame that is free standing. I added in a couple of chains between the top bar and ceiling hooks to make sure sag wasn't a problem. The bike hooks are ones my LBS had made years ago and are basically butchers hooks rotated through 90 degrees, no points on them and half encased in surgical tubing, for cushioning. The whole structure is 3m long and can take 5 bikes side by side hanging the same way up. I have since added floor stands as well so some bikes are on the floor between the hanging bikes...easier for the kids and Jane.

The tool area is down one side and the work bench is made up of old kitchen worktops leftover from upgrades. The legs/supports are yet more racking from my LBS and I have a motley collection of drawers. shelving and tubs underneath. The wall above is metal pegboard, again from LBS, that goes up to the ceiling. The pegboard hooks are heavy duty plastic ones, I picked up a job lot on e-bay from an angling shop after a refit...about 250 pieces for £10. There have been a few changes since these pics, tool additions, layout adjustments and some better worktop shelving...but the gist is the same.

Things alter slowly now, always room for new/more tools but the storage areas upgrade as we upgrade things in the house. So the older stuff gradually works its way through various indoor locations before finally ending up in the garage. It's then either tip bound or, if better than what's already in the garage, it replaces that and the existing bit goes to the tip.
