Hi, I was planning to save up although the back wheel keeps falling out of my trusty steed after some clumsy attempts to force the quick release lever broke it.

Now for jaunts two miles in to town and two miles back I don't have a transport, so I need to make a move now.

I am currently eyeing up a Btwin Rockrider 340 and these two GT and Scott on eBay but I need some advice on which is a better deal and how much I should pay for the named brands:

I need to get something ordered on Monday. Also second hand there are delivery charges that eat into my budget whereas with decathalon delivery is free. Yes I know it isn't "free" as such but being a big company you would be surprised how little of the price is taken out of the overall price of the bike.

You will get more for your money 2nd hand, however much you spend. £150 will get you out of trouble nicely:okay:

Yes - second-hand at that price.

I've just listed my Carrera for £150: https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/f...51cm-frame-£150-dewsbury.203784/#post-4359762

If you're doing journeys of c4 miles on road then you might want to consider whether a mountain bike with front suspension is the best choice? A hybrid might be an option too.

Something along these lines perhaps? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pinnacle-...715694?hash=item33bae2282e:g:T44AAOSwhOVXfWG1

I get where you are coming from but going by my previous steed (see my intro thread:laugh:) a light weight mountain bike with straight wheels will feel heavenly. Off road is more my style as well and I will go and ride trails where I can't get my motorbike.

Right, the GT went for 102 +£30 delivery so £132 all together but since no one gave me a guide price I could only assume that was over the odds for what is essentially an entry level model.

Phaeton, if your bike is an aluminium frame I would like it delivered to me please. Half the problem of buying second hand is that a lot of the bikes are collection only which was why I was looking at buying new.
