10 speed shimano hub compatible with 8 speed?

As I prefer the helpful, learned, witty and erudite responses from forum members (1), to a lonely trawl of Google etc., may I ask..............will I be able to move a rear wheel with a 10 speed shimano hub to my winter hack bike with shimano 8 speed? And yes I know I could try it and see, but see (1) above.
If you don't know the answer, please can you tell me how I can restore my memory, as I'm sure I used to know this?

Yes, Shimano 10 speed hubs are 8 & 9 compatable.

As Smokin Joe says yes; a few weeks ago I removed the old mavic wheel off my 8sp turbo bike and I'm using it on a 10sp road bike.
