Just cracked 1000m of commuting this morning, which I'm quite pleased with especially as I barely rode in January at all because of the icey roads.

Does anyone know how to calculate my carbon footprint savings? The commute is 11m each way and I would use a train & tube to get to work.

You've actually spent carbon, even though you're using a bike. It cost carbon to make, and you ate extra for the exercise you did. Oh, sorry, that's not what you wanted to hear? :P

Oh well, just assumed there was a way of measuring it. I'm on MCL, but didn't spot a feature to record it.

Still pleased to break the 1k though. Hoping for 3k this year.

You have too much time on your hands. Ride more, don't spend time trying to calulate a meaningless figure such as carbon saved through cycling. I guess you will be using a computer to do this? LoL.

Good advice. A few weeks ago, the battery died on my commuter bike's computer and I was too lazy to get a replacement. Last night it dawned on me that I've not missed the computer stats so removed it.

One less thing to maintain and less to think about when I should be concentrating on the road.

Good advice indeed.

I found myself getting stressed when I took a week's holiday and fell behind on my 4000 mile target. Then I remembered it's just an arbitrary figure that I plucked out of thin air, and to torture myself with it is the very essence of madness.

Yes and no. The target is a goal I've set myself. However, I know how long my commute is and simply record the rides in My Cycling Log every day or so. I rarely watch my speed or time on the computer as I find it makes me take unnecessary risks.

This is so easily missed, but never the less true. However compared to using a car / train / tram... ect; I am sure that the footprint would be minimal
