GO AND SEE THIS FILM!

I went today and it is one of the best films I've seen in a long while. At the end I felt physically drained because of the range of emotions it invoked. I have to say I had a sense of identification because of a certain situation I got myself into on the side of a mountain recently and it brought back some of the feelings from that day but nevertheless give it a go and see what you think. There is also some cool cycling in the early part of the film and the scenery is amazing too.

On a slightly different tack, Danny Boyle cannot be accused of sticking to a format with his films. A more ecletic portfolio of movies you could not ask for. He is a talent to be proud of.

Was the 'cutting his arm off' really graphic and gory?xx(

Having been totally absorbed with the story when it happened a few years ago, I wondered how long before it would be made into a film.

This trailer will get most people along to watch it - SPOILER -

.

It looks extremely well filmed and a film certain to win many awards.

Most of you should recognise the music right at the end of the trailer!

Thanks for the post, BJB!

Have you read the book?

I read the book a few years back. His descriptions of the moment when the rock falls onto his arm induced in me some intense feelings of helplessness. I intend going to see the film and am interested in seeing whether Danny Boyle manages to recreate the feelings that the book evokes.

I've not read the book but mean to. Will probably end up watching the film on DVD at some time unless going to see it at the pictures will be worth the trip.

I saw a fisherman on telly who got his arm caught in the winch for his nets in bad weather as his boat was taking in water. He didn't have as long to think about it, which might be better I think.

I don't know if I could watch it, or do it.

Many years ago I wired in the supply for a paper guillotine at a print works. As part of the commissioning of the machine I also needed to set the blade.

The guillotine needed to be able to cut one sheet of tissue paper and also about 3" of paper so I needed to do test cuts and then adjust the blade. 3" of paper took no more effort to cut then the tissue paper.

Adjustment was by loosening the nuts and bolts that held the blade and the only way to do that was to pass my arm under the blade to hold a spanner on the other side.

Even with the machine switched off, the power off, the fuses in my pocket, the key in my pocket and the 'go' buttons pressed several times to make sure it didn't operate I still couldn't stop my hand shaking as I passed it under the blade.
I even had to make that decision of which hand went under in case the machine had a gremlin and operated!
Holding the spanner still was almost a non starter and I had to tape it to my finger to save dropping it.:surrender:

It still makes me cringe and shiver to think about it.xx(

I probably won't watch the film as it may bring back to many memories of loosing my own arm.
I don't want risk another attack of nightmares.

I was lucky when the Tiger got my arm as it was all over in under a couple of minutes.
I then sat around for ~10 mins waiting for the air ambulance.
Whisked into hospital and knocked out so they could opperate on what was left.

Luck ............

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet - I think I'll be having nightmares about it on your behalf!

Maybe you don't want to go into any more detail than that, but, er... were you just sitting around in India somewhere when a tiger appeared from nowhere and went for you, or what?

Silly accident at work after you take a short cut and don't get away with it.
But I was lucky as it could have been a lot worse.

Ps, my nickname is Tigerbiten because I'm Tiger bitten ...........
