just returned from a weeks holiday in great yarmouth with the family , whilst we were away we hired a tandem and my 9yr old daughter and we rode in to great yarmouth and back and around the caravan site for just over 1 1/2 hrs .

daughter enjoyed it which was my hope so now keeping an eye out for a tandem to join the xpanding fleet of bike . only hired a cheep make (reflex timberline) and model as all that was available , but it served a purpose .

Keep and eye on Bridge Bicycles in Wadebride.
They have several Thorn's up for replacement at the end of the season
You'll need to replace the cassette and chain but should be OK otherwise

Wow! There are loads of them on Eblag. We'd love to buy one but the problem is inspecting them and trying them for size, as well as knowing what's good and what's not. I've ridden a good one and two bad ones so I know how good and bad they can be.

fingers crossed off to huntingdon tonight after work to look at a Raliegh venture + 1 that seems to cross all the boxes for our needs so if we can do a deal will be bringing it home in the car

sorry if i am the only person commenting on own post but just letting you know how we are getting on , picked tandem up thursday pm , did quick visual on friday pm , and 1st actual ride this afternoon for about 5 miles , daughter really enjoyed and wants to ride to school on the days i take her in .

Nice one. Had my boys (8 & 10) out on our Dawes Duet today. Each did 30 miles + and it was great. The rear pedals are clipless on one side, flats on the other. Managed to get SPD shoes for the eldest (a hard search on chain reaction for his size - through Google Shopping and not CR's own search engine) and he really likes them, the youngest is disappointed he's on flats still - but likes to stop pedalling suddenly so he gets thrown up in the air!!!!

I've also mounted a computer on the rear wheel so that they have the display on the stoker's bars and can keep me updated on speed, distance, top speed etc - keeps them happy when my back is blocking their view. They want me to put drop handlebars in for the stoker so they can go faster!

Finally I put a topeak tribag behind my seatpost so that they can put essentials (sunglasses, tissues, my phone or snacks) somehwere handy and act as my PA if needed.

stig , totally agree on the kepping them busy comment , and will get another trip meter for her to use (play with) , we did a total of 3hrs cycling over 24 hrs , normally that would be years worth .

daughter did ask why my pedals have straps on them when hers didnt , so i had to explain that one away

long may it continue
