Whoop-di-do. I've finally cracked the 20mph average on my commute! I don't religiously time myself every day, but I've been full of energy and gone for it this week (I'm like Superman, the sun gives me extra power.) My previous record was a couple of seconds under 35 minutes, but I did a 34 minute run on Thursday! I thought that maybe I'd mis-timed it, but I did the same time on Friday, and then today (Saturday) I rode like the devil and did a 32m 30s dead time. I know that with the bank hols there's been a bit less traffic, but hey it still counts. What makes it even more important is that a sub 33 minute time means a 20.68 mph average over 11.2 miles!!!!!!!!

Also noteworthy is that I beat my previous times with a Marathon Plus on the rear. I did say when I first fitted it that I couldn't tell any difference over the lighter weight Durano Plus I had on previously, and I think this shows that a few grammes on a commuter really doesn't matter.

I'm gonna have a well deserved beer now!

Congratulations!

I commuted a few times by bike when I worked in Burnley and always tried to achieve 20 mph average over the return journey. (It isn't flat and is more uphill on the way out than the return.) It is 15 miles and my best times were 49 minutes out and 44 minutes back giving me an average of 19.35 mph. I never quite made it.

Good effort mate. My best for a 18m commute is 20.7mph - still trying to crack 21! I almost managed 20 for a 40m route the other day - convinced that if it had been cooler I'd have done better than the 19.8mph I finished with!!

Do that in both directions and take an average ;)

T'will never happen. I always cycle in steady so I don't break sweat. Mind you, the traffic's a lot lighter at 6am, so I could do the inbound commute quicker if I really wanted to.

Then again, if I removed my rack/panniers/snap/work clothes/tools/lights/spare tube/horn etc etc I dare say I could knock quite a bit of time off, but then it wouldn't be a 'commuting' record.

With the hills on my commute dragging me down to 8 mph i have no chance of hitting evens . commuting or otherwise.

We are all jealous really , well done !!!

Well done. I dont always check my ave speed on my commute, normally just go fairly steady, but on one sunny day last year I decided to go for it both ways & averaged 19.2mph over the 32 miles (both ways) wish I'd have pushed harder to reach the magic 20

I once managed 19.something which was pretty amazing for me. That would drop a few if there was traffic as the roads were too narrow to filter safely if there were on coming cars.
