20mph coming to Cambridge!

Does this mean they will remove some of the traffic lights so that cars stand a chance of hitting the speed limit?
;)

Complete waste of time - but I guess they have to spend our money on something.

If it were really a good idea they should just go the whole hog and ban (with some exceptions) motorised vehicles from the roads in question.

Seven letters of support and no objections - well there you go - a landslide victory.

I note that they were also going to do a 20mph trial over in Melbourn (SW of Cambridge) but after 100+ objections they decided against it in the end.

Surely cars will be a thing of the past for cambridge with grand opening of the guided bus route? Anyone live on route?

No, but I do like the visionary thinking of a combined cycle-path and swimming pool.

Warwickshire have reduced the speed limits on it's trunk routes from Nat Spd limit 60mph to 50mph by planting numerous round signs.

So if a dozey t*at hits me when he's not concentrating, I'll land 40yds down the road instead of 50.

Close to it. I used to go and watch lizards sunning themselves where they've built that apparent white elephant.

Oh, and as you might anticipate, the comments on that article are pretty much along the lines of "HOW DARE YOU PERSECUTE MOTORISTS, ITS ALL THE BLOODY CYCLISTS FAULT!"

I live along the route, not been on the 'cycle path' yet but the concrete bus route is super smooth for bikes!

When is the grand opening? It changes every few moths....along with the cost.

Last time I was in Cambridge (Hills Road) I thought the maximum speed limit was about 20 mp day. I walked to the station and caught my train. (Self righteous self-satisfied sanctimonious glow appears).

20mph? Middle of Cambridge? Not hard. 30mph is a challenge though.

Would you, tourists and shoppers just step out don't they? I've only cycled in Cambridge a few times though.

They are about to do some more work on Hills rd and the 'cycle lane highway' according to the other page from the link!
