Hi i am looking at getting new road bike in the next few months as an upgrade from my current one which i will turn into my winter bike i have around 2k to spend so im after a little advice what i should purchase as this will have to last me a few years (the wife said so) should i buy second hand? get carbon with lower quality group set then upgrade later or get a better group set straight out,my rides will be recreational 50-100 miles no racing
thanks in advance

There is absolutely no need to go second hand with that budget IMO, but, if you do decide to then I personally wouldn't buy a second hand carbon bike.

Buy a new carbon bike if that's what you want, or a high end alu or a Ti, or a bamboo if you want, just not second hand carbon.

You may even be able to get into electronic shifting at £2k if you look at Rose and Canyon bikes.

That said though, get the very best frame you can, everything else is easy to upgrade as and when required.

I tend to look at the more recognised trands like specialize trek Scott felt and so on but will certainly check out these 2 brands as im fairly new just want to get lots of feed back before I part with the cash

Both Canyon and Rose are very well respected (German) manufacturers.
Canyon bikes were used by the Katusha pro cycling team

Canyon Ultimate CF frames are nice!

Or a Supersix Evo frameset for 1500 (if you hunt around for deals) and a groupset from Ribble. Get cheap finishing kit and wheels for now and upgrade them in the the next few months

Squire
Well known Belgian brand, for sale through a UK retailer (unlike Rose and Canyon who are mail order only)

Might as well give Planet X a mention, although I ride Ti...service and component quality is A1.

And it comes with a Turbomatic saddle - nice!
Good luck with whichever bike you choose. This one will take you for a burn up while your other bike can deal with the day to day stuff as the £ accumulate for the bike after this one. Ti fromes from Van Nich are available through Planet X too - should 'sleek metal' take your fancy...although a top spec build would come in at +200 over your target price. For that you buy comfort and beauty, along with strength.
