4 gang wall socket question.

I suspect a dodgy switch on the no.2 socket. If that seems to be the case, just replace the unit. Cheap DIY like-for-like replacement.

I might have missed this suggestion up-thread but have you tried.
A. Plugging the kettle into a socket that you know works.
B. Plugging something you know works into the non-working kettle socket.

He plugged the kettle into another of the four sockets, and it worked.

(I'm no electrician but) switches on 13A sockets do fail. shortly after buying my current house one night I turned off the TV checked kitchen, back through sitting room and TV LED was still on. Socket switch was off. Unplugging obviously worked. The switch had failed but failed in the "ON" setting.

I then decided to change every socket in the house from the cheapo unbranded ones to quality MK ones. I felt it important that when you switch something off it really should go off.

Working on a 10kW transmitter once, I noticed that the neon screwdriver I was using lit up, and found that the wireman had wired up the main isolator switch incorrectly, leaving the whole cabinet live with it switched 'off'. Equipment isn't connected to the power until it's been circuit checked, so not only that the wireman made a mistake, someone had also claimed to have circuit checked it when they hadn't.
