Hi

I'm trying to source a 46t 130 PCD middle ring for my FSA triple crank set. I know that TA make one but it seems to be impossible to source in the UK.

However TA also make a 46t 130 PCD inner chainring for a double crank set, which is widely available. Can anyone tell me if it can be used as a middle ring or are they incompatable (and why) ?

Regards

Can't see a problem in using it. I'm currently using a 42t middle ring on the outer position on my cross bike and it shifts fine..

An 'inner' ring won't have the ramps etc that a middle ring would have to facilitate shifting from small to middle ring.

My experience is it drops between the rings and jams. This was a Tiagra triple attempting to use Stronglight chainwheels, non-ramped.
Which has nothing to do with ramps and pins. It's caused by bent rings or incorrect spacing. Did you have them on the right way round?

Yep. Tried two different size rings as well. Perhaps it was just the combination of Shimano and Stronglight because, as you said, until then I thought it made no difference except effeciency. A TA middle solved the issue immediately.
