Hi just got back from a ride on the Leeds Liverpool canal from Rodley, did about 8 miles, not bad to say I was with my 5 year old twins, and no-one ended up in the canal!!!

Well done! Towpaths make me nervous and I am all growed up (allegedly)

They do always seem to amaze. My two sons are being encouraged to ride. The first ditched the stabilisers when about 5 but the second was much sooner, just before turning 4, as he had big bro to catch.

Son #1 did the approx 10 mile lap of Derwent and Howden Res from Derwent dam (dam busters practice site) at about the age of 5½ on his Ridgeback MX14 which was starting to look a bit small as he approached 6 so I rushed out and bought him a GT Stomper 20. Both proper bikes, not the usual toy shop BSO's most kids get but well worth the money and #2 is now enjoying the MX14.

My oldest son is now nearly 8 and I am beginning to worry about the day he can ride harder, faster and further than me. Having said that, I am looking forward to some epic MTB advetures with them both.

Sounds great. My 6-yr-old now has a full sized BMX & although the cranks are a bit long it should last him for years.

Next job is to get the little girl off stabilisers. She's 4 so it's probably time.

That lap of derwent is a good achievement for a 5 1/2 yr old! Ever go to Carsington water? That's a great place to take them as well.

I enjoy taking my son out on the bikes, he's 6 and weve done some great rides, as said allways a little nevous on the canal towpaths as there's so much to distract him, boats etc ...

The longest ride we did was 16 miles, though he did really well ... and he really slept well that night too ... lol
