7/ 8 speed compatibility

Hi All

I'm doing some repairs to my old commuting MTB and wanted to double check:

If I match 7 speed derailleurs with a 7 speed cassette, 8 speed chain and 8 speed chainset (all Shimano Deore or LX) that'll work, won't it?

AFAIK 5-8 sp chains are all the same thickness so it'll work no problem.

I think so. The chains are the same for 7 and 8 speed so as long as your shifter and mech work I can't see a problem. It's when you go up to 9+ speeds things can get a bit complicated.
