Hi all,

I can get a week off in end of september giving me 9 days off (incl. sat/suns etc) - I would like to go cycling for 7 of those, but im not sure where!

I have no real burning desire to go anywhere paticular, so any suggestions on options open to me? Ive not cycled in a foreign country before so I thought maybe something like france/belgium might be nice - but then again I love scotland too!

Im not asking anyone to plan a trip for me lol, just to name some places to get me thinking!

Off for a little 3 day tour this friday

Thanks

Had a week there in June and its easy pleasant cycling country, and the D-Day stuff adds a bit of extra interest.
Ferry from Portsmouth out to Cherbourg and back from Le Havre gives a good week's cycling with easy daily distances.

The Western Isles. Sustrans sell a book; ”The Isles and Highlands of Western Scotland. Island Hopping Bike Adventures”, that is very informative and supplies detailed routes and mapping. Weather in September can often be good to very good.

Good Luck.

Lucky you ! I think Brittany will be my next tour - Poole To St Malo by fast ferry is about £35 each way then 7 days in the tent. You may want to keep an eye of the weather and strike out in whatever direction suits.

just think of somewhere you have never been before, otherwise the list will be endless and you could spend seven days deciding where you would like to go

Stay south. Getting colder and rainier in Scotland. France sounds good. Mainly - just go. Serendipity will be your friend.

I'd probably pass on Scotland in September. Brittany would be good but a lot of campsites close in September so it would be worth checking that out first.

If you're away from the coastal ports, and would have to fly anyway, go to Germany. It's the best country for cycling. The radweg system is extensive, nearly all hotels have safe storage for bikes. I've toured the Black Forest, Berlin to Dresden, down the Mosel and From Munich to Salzburg. All exceptional. All roughly a week in duration. Can't fault it.

I second the Germany suggestion. I've just cycled along the Danube cycle route and was impressed by the infrastructure that supports cycling. I had a wonderful time and will be heading back there next year. Language is not a problem, I had some extremely rudimentary German at my disposal but most Germans spoke English rather better than a lot of English folk I know.
