...Courtesy of a 4WD in Blackfen this morning.

He drifted into bike lane, clipped me with his wing mirror, bounced my elbow a few times down the side of his still moving car as he continued to pass me while I tried to regain control, then off straight into the road once he had passed, into the path of the vehicle behind.

Hospital says I'm damaged, but not completely broken, fortunately!!

Had to happen eventually I suppose. I'll spare you the gory road-rash pictures.

Take care out there people!!

Yes. He muttered something about being within the white lines, but I was a bit dazed. In fairness he did offer to get me a first aid kit, and said if I needed anything to contact him after I took down his details. It's hard to say what happened in the lead-up since it came from behind, but a witness said he was trying to get in front of someone, so presumably he was so busy checking his right mirror, that he didn't check his left before using the cycle lane to get ahead.

I didn't have a go. He seemed genuinely regretful about what had happened. Might have to ask him for a few quid to put the bike right, but I'll need to have a proper look at it first. I think it got off much lighter than I did!!

Here for rides.
8 years? Jebbus. I'm glad if I go 8 weeks without a nobber in a 4WD making contact with me. I think I average one-and-a-bit "other road user induced" offs a year. And that's after changing my commute route to avoid the usual suspects.

He HIT YOU and then tries to weasel out of responsibility?

fark the white lines, you are a human being - no vehicle journey is important enough to risk the life of a vulnerable road user.

If the road in front is not clear to pass, then you WAIT until it is clear.....

FFS - HOW HARD IS IT?

Sorry about ranting, but I have been forced to go off the road every day this week, Sunday (police called - NFA as no witnesses), Monday I rode off twice to let overtaking vans back in to avoid head on crashes, and tonight I pulled off and stopped 3 times for LGV's passing and having to cut back in early.

Where is this massive stretch of busy road I hear you ask?

2 miles of the A614 in rural Yorkshire

I'd also be using the insurance and making an issue of it if I was you. Being polite at the scene is fine, and a good way to be, but ultimately his poor driving put your life at risk and so he should be made aware of that fact via his insurance, if not via the Police. You were injured and so the Police should be notified and he should have remained at the scene to give a statement IIRC. Could be recognised as careless driving.

However, your call on that.
