Due to long and complicated discussions with a call centre on the other side of the world my trip home from NZ has got complicated, but the upshot of which is that I now have a day to kill in Bangkok.

I’ve been there about 7-8 times now so think I have seen most the ‘sites’ (including some I wish I hadn’t) so have ‘done’ Jim Thompson’s house, canal boats, the palaces/ temples and diving with sharks at the aquarium etc

Therefore anyone with an insider’s knowledge of the City got any tips?

Are you staying over night?

If so, stay on the Koh San Road at the D&D Inn.. It has a swimming pool on the roof, loved it! Plus the KS Road is just shere brilliance of the night, one not to be missed, nor are the Heiniken Girls.. but some great side alleys there too with some great eateries and bars.

Personally, I found Koh San to be exceedingly tacky - full of over-funded gap year students only interested in drinking into oblivion. Each to their own, but I think that Bangkok has more to offer than that.

KhaoSan Road is best avoided as is PatPong and Soi Cowboy.
If you are there on the weekend, take the skytrain to MoChit and visit Chatuchak Market - 35 acres and about 15,000 stalls.
Baiyoke Tower - take the lift up to the observatory on the 77th floor and then take the lift to the 84th floor to the outside revolving deck.
The Snake Farm
If you are interested in aircraft - The Thai Air Force Museum
The Forensic Museum in Siriraj Hospital

My KS Road days have passed. I met my brother (who at the time was 19 to my 34) in Bangkok he was staying on the KS road - we were in a rather nice hotel - we both couldn't understand why the other choose the accomodation they had!

Thanks for the tips some good ideas there.

Any more?
