Thanks - I enjoyed reading that (if not all the comments at the bottom!!!)

My reply to bobbellinhell's obsession with the dangers of cyclists on pavements:
1998-2005 inclusive:
Total pedestrians killed on pavements/verges by drivers =382
Ditto by cyclists = 2
Ditto by drivers on pedestrian crossings = 530. By cyclists = 3
Total killed on pavements in London in last 5 years by drivers = 17
By cyclists = 0
Any questions?

What a wonderful article. All those new cyclists adding to the figures are people like myself. Reformed petrol heads or public transport users rediscovering the simply joy of the bicycle. Buying a bike at the age of 31, even if it was a BSO, was the best thing I ever did.

The first paragraph of that article made me laugh because my 7 year old son and myself have taken to shouting 'come on Wiggins' to anyone we see on a bike. It started off with people on road bikes but has been extended to include anyone on a bike. Best one so far was when he shouted it at someone on a Chopper.

Nice article, I particular liked the last paragraph although I must admit that I'm confused by the "the dew of effort on your forehead". Is that related to the buckets of eye-stinging sweat that have been running off my nose whenever I've done anything more than raised an eyebrow over the past 2 days? :heat:

When is it going to be winter again. :cold:

:giggle:

Stop complaining Norm. Enjoy the sun and heat! :-)
The trouble is, sir, that I really don't. Layers can protect against cold and wet but you can't do anything to protect against the heat. As a personal thing, once it gets past 25c, especially with a high level of grass pollen, I pretty much cease to function. I'm here now as I won't sleep properly until I've had a few weeks, at least, to acclimatise or the temperature has dipped again.

No give me summer any time (well real ones not the wash outs we had for June). Winter clothing is dull, and all those layers restrict your movement, whereas in summer I can just slow my pace if it is too hot. Though I must admit I would have preferred a more gentle turn on of the heat.
