The biggest error anyone can make when negotiating anything is, what?

Accepting the first offer! NEVER accept the first offer or it'll result in misery for both parties. The offerer thinks 'he's accepted too quickly, I could have got him to accept less' while the offer-ee will always think they've crumbled too soon. Even if the first offer is MORE than you expected, knock it back on principle anyway.
