Norwegians have been left mystified by a strange light display in the night sky captured over a military base in Skjold.

Eyewitnesses were left wondering whether they had seen a UFO or simply an unsuccessful Russian rocket launch.

So far there has been no official explanation.

Look's like some sort of projection IMO. But then again I don't believe.

It's the Norwegian announcement of their waterflow direction down the plughole...in advance of a question to be raised by Mr Lars Yenrod later today, following on from his Question No:2 of yesterday.
Copenhagen is wonderful, wonderful.

It's just a laser projection shining on the cloud layer. You can even see the cone of the laser spreading out.

FFS instead of just gawking why didn't somebody cycle over to the source of the cone? They'd have found some kid leaning out of his bedrooom window laughing his arse off.

I liked the observer's comments in Norwegian.

Sounded like he was saying, "What the f*ck is that?......Jesus!!!"

You have a knack for this sort of thing, Rich. More or less spot on translation

By the way, the ruskies have admitted it. A test-firing of a long-distance rocket from a submarine in the White Sea went a bit awry.

Nick Pope, who previously ran the UFO programme at the Ministry of Defence, said: "I'm sceptical that this is an out-of-control missile. A missile might go into a spin, but I doubt it would be so symmetrical.

"Additionally, someone in the area would almost certainly have found debris by now.

"Finally, there are usually ways of destroying a missile that malfunctions. To me, this theory doesn't hold water."

The Bulava was launched from a submarine in the White Sea just east of Scandinavia.

The missile is central to Russia’s strategy to overhaul its weapons arsenal, but its development has been embarrassingly beset by problems.

"The first two stages of the rocket worked but in the final and third stage there was a technical failure," the defence ministry said of its latest test.

+1. I've seen lots of rockets fail. Never seen such a neat pattern.

Just overheard this on a crackly wireless connection:
Isaac Newton, John Flamsteed, William Herschel, Bernard Lovell, Stephen Hawking, Patrick Moore - you all got it wrong about the universe! This is absolutely amazing! We have discovered a new theory about Space and the Universe! Patrick Moore, can you hear me? Patrick Moore, your boys took one hell of a beating! Your boys took one hell of a beating!
