supposedly they counterbalance the extra weight of the rim joint opposite them. Not that I have tested that.

Sounds like marketing nonsense to me, but it may be true.

I've seen similar spoke/valve set ups before and always assumed the valve finding thing was the case!

Nice bike by the way. I had an older model of the Quick. Lovely ride, but a bit weighty. Looks as if they've solved that with a carbon fork?

Yeah it's under 10 kg the way I have i set up. It's a 2011 model so not exactly new. Ride quality is great though, it's more often than not my go-to bike.

ah yours was the cx then, not surprising it was heavier. mine is the straight up quick, no cx, and designed less for trail. lives up to its name tho!
