It's a bit more complicated than that...

I wanted a simple no-nonsense lunch before tonight's shenanigans in the City, so channelling my inner @Cycling Naturalist we knocked up this basic stomach-filler.

One egg's worth of home-made saffron tagliatelle courtesy of @rvw had been left to dry since breakfast. We had a lobster in the freezer left over from Christmas (only Waitrose, I'm afraid - I haven't had a chance to pop over to Maine yet this year), so that's been defrosting. The wild garlic is in full leaf along the sweeping drive to W Towers, so I grabbed a handful and knocked up a simple pistou de l'ail sauvage with pine nuts (a store-cupboard essential, I find) and an ordinary single-estate Italian Extra Virgin.

Extracting the meat from the lobster and chopping it up was a pleasant enough chore, then I brought a handful of best broad beans up to the boil, added the pasta and cooked briefly. Chuck in a couple of teaspoons of the pistou and mix well to coat, then add the lobster. Perfectly acceptable, I hope you'll think. I was tempted to add a drop of truffle oil but thought that would be a little bit de trop. To wash it all down, a perfectly respectable bottle of 2010 Bolney rosé English Sparkling Wine that was clogging up the wine cellar.

If nothing else, the colours look pretty - saffron yellow, lobster cerise, pale broad bean green and dark wild garlic green make a delightful backdrop for the pale Chardonnay and Merlot pink of the wine.

After such simple fare for lunch, the prospect of a Fullers' pint and a pie for tea is making my mouth water.

It'll do I suppose. Had the Co-Op run out og Ginsters giant sausage rolls?
