A31 in the New Forest

Whenever I try and plot a route through the a31 into Bikehike it avoids the a31. Is it trying to tell me something? It doesn't look like a bad A road, nice and flat and straight which although might encourage people to go very fast, it would allow me to maintain a decent speed.

Not riden it but driven it. I wouldn't think of doing it myself by bike. It is usually heavy in traffic, both lanes in both directions. If I were to cross the forest I'd take forest road and not the A31. If you do give a good please report back and tell uis how it went.

Thanks I kinda agree with you but I'm not really going for the scenery, just need to get to Ferndown the fastest way on a bike.

Riverman the A31 is dual carriageway from Cadnam roundabout right through to Ringwood and beyond, so it would be safer to go down the A35 or one of forest back roads.
